We are very glad to have had Carol Shin, MBA candidate for the Yale School of Management, work at the Unirule Institute of Economics as an intern during June 10 to August 14, 2009. Under the guidance of Mr. Zhao Xu, the director of the International Cooperation Department, Carol Shin did a fantastic job, which can be divided into three parts
1. Relation building with US think tanks and foundations One important aim of the International Cooperation Department is to establish and maintain relations with think tanks and foundations from other countries. During the days of her internship, Carol Shin searched and selected several US think tanks and foundations that have similar beliefs and share the same ideas as Unirule, and communicated with them Unirule’s desire to forge new relationships. She will continue with follow up communication and grant-seeking activities as needed with these organizations and others upon returning to the United States, as well as seek partnerships for Unirule through various networking opportunities.
2. English Newsletter and Website design - Unirule is planning to continually publish the English version of our newsletter to enlarge its international reputation. Carol Shin worked with other colleagues, designed the format, and revised the content of the first newsletter. During early August, the first newsletter was published and was highly evaluated by our clients. - There are some shortcomings regarding Unirule’s English website, and accordingly, Unirule is in the process of launching a new website. Carol Shin gave many useful ideas and made important contributions for the new website.
3. Editing of English documents As a think tank located in China, we have some documents translated in English that need to be revised by a native English speaker. Carol Shin undertook this responsibility to revise Unirule’s translated reports and the content of the English website.
Here we appropriate Carol Shin’s contributions through the abovementioned works she did during her internship. Meanwhile, Carol Shin became more familiar with China and its culture, history, economic and political reform, progress made and current problems faced, etc. I believe she will benefit significantly in the future from all these experiences.
