Jan. 8th,  UniruleNew Year Expectations 2016 was held byUnirule Institute of Economics/China-Review.com at Unirule Beijing Office. Thisis the fifth since 2012. Experts, scholars, and representatives from the mediaattended this summit and articulated their expectations for the coming year.

 

Jan. 14th, a seminar on “Breaking the AdministrativeMonopoly in the Medical Resource Allocation” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Experts at the meeting included research team membersProfessor SHENG Hong, Director of Unirule; Ms. QIAN Pu, Deputy Director ofUnirule Centre for Public Private Partnership(CCPPP); and external expertsProfessor MAO Shoulong from Renmin University; Professor ZHU Junsheng fromCapital University of Economics and Business; Mr. WAN Jingbo from Spring RainSoftware Ms. SUN Xiuyan from China Behaviour-law Association(CBLS);the media, and over 30 attendants.

 

Jan. 26th, a press release of UniruleMacroeconomic Quarterly Report was held at Unirule Beijing Office. The report“Adjustment Taking Effect, and Economy to Slow Down” analysed the economicperformance of 2015. Over 20 domestic and foreign media attended thisevent. 

 

Jan. 28th, a seminar on “Protection of Trademark andJudicial Justice” was held in Beijing to address the dispute between Wuliangyeand Dawuliangye, two liquor brands in China. Professor GAO Yan, Deputy Directorof Unirule held the seminar. Professor Ningyue gave an opening speech.

 

Feb. 21st, a seminar on “Corporate Tax System in the USAand China: Problems and Reform” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Thisseminar brought in significant study results and international experience forthe ongoing research project on “The Survival and Development of China’sPrivate Enterprises and the Tax System”. Unirule was proud to have Mr. DanielJ. Michell, Senior Fellow from CATO Institute(US) to speak on this seminar.

 

Feb. 19th,  UniruleBoard Meeting was held at Unirule Beijing Office. A total of 16 members of theUnirule Board were present. They are CAO Yuanzheng, FAN Gang, GAO Yan, LIWeiguang, LU Yuegang, MAO Yushi, SHENG Hong, WU Bin, WANG Yongfeng, WANGXiaowen, XU Zhangrun, WU Si, YAO Zhongqiu, and ZHANG Shuguang. According to the Charter ofUnirule Board, Mr. WU Si was elected the new President of Unirule; andProfessor SHENG Hong, Director of Unirule.

 

Mar. 12th,  UniruleMaster Western Classics Class was held at Unirule Beijing Office. A seminarentitled “Supply-Side, Demand-Side, and Policy Proposals of the Austrian Schoolof Economics” was joined by Professor MAO Yushi, Unirule Honorary President;Professor ZHANG Shuguang,famous economist; Professor CAO Yuanzheng, Chief Economist of the PBoC; andProfessor Ningyue.

 

Mar. 29th, the fifth Unirule China Entrepreneur ResearchCenter(UCERC) Salon was held in Beijing. This salon gathered some of the UCERCmembers of the board with former editor-in-chief of Reading, Mr. WANG Yan; andProfessor Ningyue, independent researcher to discuss the current affairs. Thisevent was concluded in friendly and heated atmosphere.

 

Mar. 29th, Unirule Policy Watch I on “New Path and Patternfor China’s Poverty Relief” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. This seminarwas jointly held by Unirule Institute of Economics and Phoenix Academics. Presentat the event including Mr. LI Xiaoyun, founder of The China InternationalDevelopment Research Network(CIDRN); Mr. MAO Yushi, Honorary President ofUnirule; Mr. TANG Min, advisor to the state council; Professor YU Jianrong,Director of Centre for Studies on Social Conflicts of CASS; and Professor QINSidao, independent scholar.

 

Mar. 12th, a seminar on “ImprovingSupervision of Online Finance” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Present atthe event included Professor SHENG Hong, Director of Unirule; Professor MAOShoulong from Renmin University; and Mr. LIU Xingcheng, Lawyer. This event washeld by Mr. JIANG Hao, Director of Unirule Centre for Law and PublicGovernance. A written speech was presented by Mr. XIANG Jun, Present ofShenzhen Online Finance Chamber of Commerce.

 

Apr. 11th, a seminar entitled “Aoki’sLegacy and His Influence on China’s Institutional Reforms” in memory of thelate Professor Masahiko Aoki was held at Unirule Beijing Office. This seminarwas joined by Professor Carsten Herrmann-Pillath, Professor HAN Chaohua, Mr. WUSi, Professor MO Zhihong, Professor QIN Sidao, and Professor Ningyue.

 

Apr. 20th, a press release of UniruleMacroeconomic Quarterly Report 2016 Q1 was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Thereport “Promising Data and Concrete Difficulties Requires Long-Term Enhancementand Short-Term Stability” analysed the economic performance of the firstquarter. A total of 20 domestic and foreign media attended this event,including Xinhua News Agency and China Reform.

 

Apr. 23rd, Unirule Master WesternClassics Class held a seminar on “Liberty and Rule of Law” with Professor WANGJianxun and Professor Ningyue as lecturers, and Professor XU Xin and Mr. WU Sias guest speakers.

 

Apr. 23rd, a thematic salon on “TheRisks and Opportunities of Online Finance” was jointly held by UCERC andWangtou Chunqiu(《网投春秋》) inBeijing. Professor MAO Yushi, Professor Ningyue, and Professor YANG Yongattended this salon. This event discussed the market of online finance, thecurrent economic performance, and the reform of online finance, compliance, andblockchain management, etc..

 

May 4th, Unirule Official WeChat public account “TianzeYunsi”(天则云思) wentonline. It aims to push the Chinese society towards a better future, andprovide knowledge as the public good to the public according to Unirule’spositioning of “Free, Open, Fair, Objective, International Scope, and PrudenceScientific Research”.

 

May 17th to 24th, the second term ofUnirule World Civilisation Study Trip to Israel was completed. 30 participantsfrom around China joined the academic tutors in an enriching tour.



May 18th to 21st, Unirule Masters Western Classics MayExcursion to Fujian was completed. This excursion was joined by over 10participants, including the experts and entrepreneurs from differentindustries. The group visited several companies to learn about their strategyand tactics in dealing with the economic downturn in China.

 

Jun. 18th-19th, 2016 China Institutional Economics AnnualMeeting was held in Shandong University. Over 160 papers were received by themeeting, and 110 papers were presented at the meeting.

 

Jun. 14th, Professor MAO Yushi, Professor SHENG Hong, and Mr.MA Junjie were invited to speak at a seminar at Swedish Entrepreneurship Forumin Stockholm. The seminar was entitled “Chinese Economic Reforms– From state command and control to entrepreneurial marketeconomy?” After presentations by the three experts, a panel discussion was heldwhere several scholars commented on the presentations. The experts alsoanswered questions raised by the audience.

 

Jun. 25th, Unirule Western ClassicsClass was held at Yonggui Mansion in Beijing. The topic this time was “TheImplication of Liberty.” Professor LIU Junning, Professor WANG Jianxun, andProfessor Ningyue attended this event. Another 20 offline subscribers attendedthis event.

 

June 25th and 26th, Unirule Master Thoughts Class(2016)Session 3 was held in Beijing. This session had the pleasure of the company offamous economist Professor CHEN Zhiwu from Yale University; Mr. ZHENG Yefu,Non-resident Researcher of Unirule, and Mr. WU Si, President of Unirule.

 

Jun. 25th to 26th, an interdisciplinary seminar on “Historyand Innovation Theoretical Advancement” was held jointly by Unirule Instituteof Economics, Public Policy Institute of Zhejiang Province, Tencent, andOriental Historian Review. The event was held at Xushui Hotspring Resort forthe first day, and on a boat in Baiyangdian for the second day. Present at theevent were over 30 scholars, including YANG Tianshi, MAO Yushi, CHEN Zhiwu,ZHANG Ming, SHI Yinghong, ZHANG Qianfan, WU Si, ZHANG Shuguang, SHENG Hong, YAO Zhongqiu, LIWeiguang, LONG Denggao, SHAN Shaojie, REN Jiantan, ZHANG Yan, HUANG Zhong, LULiling, DING Dong, GE Quan, WU Wei, LING Bin, LIU Yejin, HONG Zhenkuai, XUJianming, HU Xingdong, and XIE Zhihao. Another 80 participants from the mediaand local institutions attended this event.

 

Jul. 15th, a seminar on “Lawful Loan or Fraud?” was held atUnirule Beijing Office. Several scholars and lawyers attended this seminar. Theexperts at the seminar discussed the recent case of Mr. XIA Lin, a lawyer undercharge of fraud, and the issue of due procedures.

 

July 16th, Unirule Western Classics Session 5 was held atUnirule Beijing Office. This session was joined by Professor XUE Zhaofeng fromPeking University, and Professor ZHU Haijiu from Zhejiang Gongshang University,and Professor Ningyue. The topic was “Monopoly and Competition”.

 

Jul.21st, a press release on Unirule Macroeconomic Quarterly report was held atUnirule Beijing Office. The report “Private Investment Decreases as GrowthStabilised, Corporate Leverage Raises as Adjustment Takes Effect” gave acomprehensive analysis of the economic performance fo the first half of 2016. Over20 domestic and foreign media attended this event.

 

Jul. 23rd, a Seminar on Labour Contract Law Contract andthe Supply-Side Reform was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Several esteemedscholars attended this seminar, including Professor Steven N. G. Cheung;Professor DONG Baohua from East China Normal University; Professor LI Shi fromBeijing Normal University; Professor LI Lingyun from East China University ofPolitical Science and Law; Professor Ningyue from CASS; Professor SHENG Hong,Director of Unirule; Professor TIAN Silu from Nanjing University of InformationScience and Technology; Mr. WU Si, President of Unirule; Professor Qinsidaofrom CASS; Professor ZHU Junsheng from Capital University of Economics andBusiness; Mr. ZHANG Xianmin from Shanghai Bureau of Human Resources and SocialSecurity; Mr. LIU Xinlin from Center for Social Security Studies; Mr. GUOWenlong from the Intermediate People's Court of Shanghai; Mr. TANG Dajie fromChina Entrepreneur Institute; and paper contributors to this seminar along withjournalists, students, and Chinese businessmen.

 

Aug. 2nd, a Book Reading Salon on Law, Legislation and Liberty(Volume 2, Chapter 7,8,9,10) with International Experts was held at UniruleBeijing Office. Present at the event were Christopher Lingle, VisitingProfessor of Economics Universidad Francisco Marroquín (Guatemala); Barun Mitra, Director of the LibertyInstitute, India;  Ken Schoolland,Director, Entrepreneurship Center, Hawaii Pacific University, Honolulu, Hawaii,USA; Li Schoolland, Hawaii Pacific University, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA; ProfessorNingyue; Professor WEI Sen from Fudan University; XIONG Yue, CEO and Founder, Beijing HaoBTC; Professor JIAXijin from Tsinghua University; Mr. JIANG Hao, Director, Unirule Centre for Law and PublicGovernance; and ZHANG Lin, Deputy Director, Unirule Centre for Law and PublicGovernance. About 30 people attended this event in general.

 

August 4th, 2016, Unirule Development Forum was held atUnirule Beijing Office. Aug. 9th, a forum on “What Happened to China’s PrivateEnterprises” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Famous economists and lawyersattended the forum to discuss the business environment and problems in the NewNormal of the Chinese economy, and a report on private enterprises corporatetax burden was released.

 

Aug. 17th, a press release of Research on Seeking China’sConstitutional Review Breakthrough was held at Unirule Beijing Office.Professor YAO Zhongqiu from Beihang University and leader of the research teamintroduced the research project and its findings. Mr. JIANG Su introduced the contentof the research.

 

Sep. 27th, a seminar on theNew Economy was held at Unirule Beijing Office.  The topic was “The Contribution of the NewEconomy to Growth”. Several experts including Professor SHENG Hong, Director ofUnirule; Professor YAO Zhongqiu from Beihang University; Mr. LIANG Chunxiaofrom Ali Institute,; and Mr. WANG Junxiu from Institute of Scientific andTechnical Information of China attended this seminar.

 

Sep. 28th to 30th, Professor SHENG Hong was invited toattend Europe China Forum held in Berlin by European Council of ForeignRelations(ECFR). Professor SHENG Hong gave a speech on “The State-OwnedEnterprises and Private Enterprises in China.”

 

Oct. 16th, The 2016 Summit on Western Classics and AustrianSchool of Economics & Entrepreneurship and Wealth Forum was held at NewWorld Beijing Hotel. It was held by Unirule Institute of Economics with mediasupport from the Phoenix Academics, and the Humanism Economic Society. Manyesteemed economists and experts attended this event, including, Mr. MAO Yushi,Honorary President of Unirule; Professor ZHANG Weiying form Peking University;Professor XIA Bin from the State Council; Mr. WU Si, President of Unirule;Professor GAO Yan, Deputy Director of Unirule; Professor Ningyue; ProfessorWANG Jianxun from China University of Political Science and Law; Professor ZHUHaijiu from Zhejiang Gongshang University; Professor FENG Keli from ShandongUniversity; Professor MO Zhihong from Beijing University of Technology;Professor LIU Yejin from Capital University of Economics and Business; Mr.JIANG Hao, Director of Unirule Center for Law and Public Governance; Mr. XIONGYue, Co-Founder of HaoBTC; and Mr. LU Ke, Secretary General of YuandaoInstitute; and Mr. LIU Xuanhua, CEO of Jiangnan Group. A total of over 60participated in the event.


Oct. 15th and 16th, the first session of theNeo-Confucianism Class was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Professor SHENG Honggave two presentations on October 15th, respectively entitled “ObtainingKnowledge by Investigation of Things and Cultivation of Characters byUprighting one’s Mind”(正心诚意和格物致知)and “Chasing Perfection: The Implications and Formation of Cultural Elites”(修身:文化精英的意义及其形成). Professor DI Yongjun presented on “The Implications andModern Value of Hanlin(member of the imperial academy)”(翰林文化的内涵及现代价值). After two days study, the participants were invited toappreciate Peking Opera as the end of the session.

 

Oct. 25th, a press release of Unirule MacroeconomicQuarterly Report was held at Unirule Beijing Office. The report “Lax MonetaryPolicy and Heated Housing Market, and Debt-Equity Swap” analysed the economicperformance of the first three quarters. Over 20 domestic and foreign mediaattended this event.

 

Nov. 11th, a seminar on “The US Presidential Election andDemocracy” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Several experts attended thismeeting, including, Professor XU Zhangrun from Tsinghua University; ProfessorSHENG Hong, Director of Unirule Institute of Economics; Associate ProfessorTIAN Feiling, Beihang University; and Mr. JIANG Hao, Director of Unirule Lawand Public Governance Research Centre.


Nov. 3rd, a press release of Unirule Research on CorporateTax Burden was held at Unirule Beijing Office. The research team publishedtheir findings and explained how this research was conducted. Experts and teammembers attended this press release, including Professor Ningyue; Professor LIWeiguang, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics; along with Mr. ZHANG Linand Mr. ZANG Jianwen as team members. Professor CAI ChangDirector, School of Taxation, Central University of Finance and Economics; Mr.LIU Linpeng, Branch Director, Shanghai Xiaotian Tax Agency; Professor GAO Yan,Deputy Director of Unirule; Mr. TANG Dajie, Secretary General, China EnterpriseInstitute; and Mr. Professor ZONG Jiafeng, Nankai University joined thediscussion and comment session. Over 20 media attended this event.

 

Nov. 11th, a seminar on “Online Car Rentals in theBackground of New Economy” was held by Unirule Centre for Urban Development atUnirule Beijing Office. This seminar was joined by Mr. LAN Weiqing fromZhejiang Public Policy Institute; Professor ZHANG Ming from Renmin University; ProfessorXU Xin; Professor SHENG Hong, Director of Unirule; Mr. YANG Jianhui, SeniorResearcher from Ali Institute; Mr. WU Si, President of Unirule; and Mr. CHENYufeng, Caijing Magazine. This seminar discussed the legitimacy of localregulations on online car rentals, the constitutionality of such regulations,and the targeted policy goals.

 

Nov. 18th, a seminar on “How to Execute LawsConstitutionally” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. This seminar was hostedby Mr. YI Feng, a famous jurist; and joined by Professor LI Dun, RenminUniversity; Professor SHENG Hong, Director of Unirule; Mr. SONG Li, DeputyDirector of Guangdong Jingling Law Firm; Mr. JIANG Hao, Director of UniruleCentre for Public Governance; and Mr. ZHOU Hongling.

 

Nov. 19th and 20th, the second session of theNeo-Confucianism Class was held at Unirule Beijing Office. On November 19th,Professor SHENG Hong, Director of Unirule, gave a thematic lecture on “Qijia(齐家): Familism and State Governance(1): Economic Institutionand Policy”; on the morning of November 20th, Mr. Jingang gave a lecture on“Choices and Perseverance of the Saints in Adversity”; on that afternoon, anexcursion to the National Museum was guided by Mr. Jingang.

 

Dec. 6th, a seminar on “the Survival and Development ofChina’s Private Enterprises” was held at Unirule Beijing Office. Dec. 9th, the first of the series thematic salon ofurbanisation on “How Big Is the Market for Public-Private Partnership?” washeld at Unirule Beijing Office. This salon was held by Unirule Centre for UrbanDevelopment, sponsored by Beijing Chengji Investment Co. Ltd., and BeijingHuazhou Law Firm. This salon was joined by Professor SUN Jie, researcher ofMinistry of Finance; Mr. ZHAO Xu from Unirule; Professor SHENG Hong, Directorof Unirule; Mr. FAN Lin, CEO of Beijing Chengji Investment Co. Ltd., and a fewother experts in this area.

 

Dec. 13-14, Professor GAO Yan, DeputyDirector and Board Member of Unirule, was invited to host and speak at theannual conference of China Chamber of Commerce for Petroleum and Oil Industry.
