May 21, the 3rd session of the New Confucianism Class was held at Unirule Beijing Office. This session was joined by Professor LI Weiguang from Tianjin University of Finance and Economics. He spoke on “The Legacy of Shangjun— A Comparative Study of Confucianism”. Professor LI Weiguang illustrated the cause of inflation by property rights policy in history, and explained the difference of values of the east and the west. Even though Confucianism has dominated China over a long period of time, it is the Legalists who really dominated the nation building and the evolution of institutions. Professor LI Weiguang spoke highly of Shangjun’s promotion of the limit of monarch’s power and the importance of establishing a legal framework.
