[Biweekly Symposium] No. 596: From “Family State” to “People’s State”.
Lecturer: SUN Dawu
Host: QIN Sidao
Commentators: CHEN Haowu, ZHANG Ming, TAN Jiangying
As a well-known entrepreneur, Mr. SUN Dawu has commanded a much wider view on various issues. He was one of the first few entrepreneurs to undertake an institutional experiment in his corporate, that is “corporate constitution.” He introduced his experience and thinking after a trip to the UK.
From a comparative perspective, he illustrated why China has followed a system that overstated the role of the head of the state, instead of systems such as those of the US and UK. He used his own corporate experiment to explain the importance of having a republic-like entity that would outlive the real owner of the corporate. When it comes to China as a country, he emphasized the role of the people, instead of the head of the state regarding the healthy governance of it.
Unirule Biweekly Symposium has been serving the Chinese public as an open platform for academic exchange.
