[Biweekly Symposium] No. 585: Features of the Roman Private Law and the Legacy of the Two Legal Systems.

Lecturer: WANG Yang

Host: JIANG Hao

Professor WANG Yang firstly emphasized the difference between the history of Roman Law and the history of Roman Empire. He stressed that the evolution of the Roman Law has a lot to do with not only time, but also places. He summarized that there are five phases of the development of the Roman Law: the ancient times, the forming era, the classic era, the post-classic era, and the compiling era. Professor WANG Yang also pointed out two biggest contributions of the Roman Law to today’s world, that is the distinction between public and private law, and its influence on civil law.
