Topic: China's Revolution in the last century Lecturer:Mr. Lu Yuegang Discussants:Prof. Han Gang, Prof. Wang Haiguang, Prof. Qiu Feng, Prof .Sheng Hong, Prof. Mao Yushi At the 377th Unirule bi-weekly symposium, Mr. Lu Yuegang, senior editor of the China Youth Daily delivered a speech entitled “China’s Revolution in the last century”. Mr. Lu began this presentation with the discussion of the root cause of revolution in the 1930’s. According to Mr. Lu, China’s revolution was not a well designed one lead by the elites. Instead, it is one that is motivated by China’s farmers desire for a subsistence living. So land policy was the center of all the reforms and revolutions in China in the last century, since farmland directly linked with the wellbeing of the farmers. Under this scenario, Communist Party of China raised the idea of seized the land from the land lord and equally distribute it among the farmers. Attracted by the CPC’s promise, China’s farmers firmly supported the CPC during the Civil war. However, soon after the establishment of People’s Republic of China, the government made it a law that all land belong to the nation, thus betrayed its previous promise. CPC had also promised to build a liberal and democratic society. But Betrayed the promise after win the civil war, too. So the reform and opening up could be seen as compensation to the promises it hadn’t delivered.
