Keynote speaker: Prof. Sun Liping
Panelists: Li Shi, Liu Yu, Xiong Wei

Biweekly Symposium No.450 was held on March 16, 2012. The topic is “transformation trap or middle-income trap” and keynote speaker is the famous socialist Prof. Sun Liping comes from Tstinghua University. His main point is that much phenomenon happened in China such as social conflicts, serious income gap between wealth and poor can’t be explained by “middle income trap” simply as Latin America countries. In his mind, the bunch of people who advocate reform in the beginning of 1980th now become interest groups who don’t want to reform anymore. What’s more, on one hand, they get great advantage from political powers and monopoly powers; on the other hand, they use market system to decentralize risks. He also mentioned the situation in Chongqing and Bo Xilai and he thought that political reform is serious and China must be more justly to prevent serious social conflicts and events.

As to the panelists, there are Prof. Li Shi comes from Peking Normal University who is an expert in income distribution, Prof. Liu Yu comes from Tstinghua University who is famous as an advocate in democracy, Mr. Xiong Wei who is leader during direction elect in Wukan county of Guangdong province.
